PhD Thesis: Optimization and further development of our model predictive control

system for Fresnel collector systems with direct steam generation


Goals of the thesis:

The main goal of this thesis is to develop and implement a universal control law for solar direct steam

generation system based on earlier versions.


The following sub-tasks are envisioned:

  • Understanding the existing model predictive control system
  • Enhancing the existing mathematical model describing system dynamics
  • Adding new features to the system model (flow pattern prediction, heat transfer variations)
  • Adding parallel string operation to the controller by modeling pressure drop variations
  • Implementation and experimental testing of the universal MPC control law

Your qualifications:

  • Master Degree in mechanical engineering, physics, technical informatics or similar
  • Experience with thermodynamics and heat transfer
  • Experience with programming languages (C, Matlab, Siemens PLC programming is a plus)
  • A very good command of written and spoken English (German is a plus, but not required)
